The route starts in Al Thanyah 3 and runs north-east through Al Sufouh 2 and Al Sufouh 1, with a dense run of cafés and restaurants in the first 2.4 km, including Boon Coffee Roasters at km 2 and a cluster of places around km 2.4. From km 7.6 the road threads the Umm Suqeim suburbs, where a second group of restaurants sits between km 9.1 and km 9.4, and a fuel station at Emarat comes at km 8.4. Past Jumeirah 3 and Jumeirah 2 the route turns inland through Al Wasl and Business Bay, reaching the Burj Khalifa district at km 21.7. Za'abeel and the Trade Centre suburbs follow between km 26 and km 30.5, then Al Kifaf, Al Jaffiliya and Al Hudaiba lead down to Dubai Maritime City at km 36.6. The final stretch crosses the old city: Al Ras at km 42.5, then the low point of the ride at 44 m by km 42.8, and the historic quarters of Al Shindagha, Al Buteen and Al Sabkha. The high point of 63 m arrives at km 44.9, immediately before the finish at Deira. With 45 m of gain in total and 44% of it in the first half, the profile is effectively flat throughout.
