Riders after a long, essentially flat day: 112.3 km with only 83 m of climbing rewards steady pace rather than climbing legs.
A flat 112.3 km loop through Dubai's suburbs, from Al Thanyah 1 out to the coast at Umm Suqeim and inland past Burj Khalifa.
The loop starts in Al Thanyah 1 and passes Al Thanyah 3 at 2.3 km, with the day's high point of just 23 m reached at 12.9 km. The outward section runs at or near sea level, dropping to the low point of -7 m at 30.5 km before working back north through Al Thanyah 5, The Springs, Al Thanyah 4 and Emirates Hills around the 35-40 km mark. From Al Sufouh 2 at 45.4 km the route follows the coastal suburbs in sequence: Umm Suqeim 3, Umm Suqeim, Umm Suqeim 1, Al Safa and the Jumeirah districts, then turns inland through Al Wasl to Business Bay at 63.7 km and the Burj Khalifa area at 64.1 km. The second half continues through Ghadeer Al Tair, MBR- Al Merkad at 83.2 km and Al Safa 1 at 91.5 km, before returning seaward via Umm Suqeim 2, Umm Al Sheif and Al Sufouh 1 at 103.8 km. With 83 m of climbing in 112.3 km, and 60% of that gain in the first half, there is no sustained gradient anywhere on the loop.
